Growing up, my favorite books were Treasure Island and The Count of Monte Cristo; stories where a single map or unexpected option completely changes a person's trajectory.
I got interested in pricing unexpected options after listening to an actuary give a guest talk in high school. After college, I worked four years in actuarial pricing, working for a major Australian bank and then a global reinsurer where I learnt the maths behind valuing the unknown. In 2019, I qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries Australia (FIAA).
I then spent four years at a global proprietary trading firm, managing options portfolios through some pretty chaotic market panics (both on the downside and upside). I still stand by that 2021 was crazier than 2020.
I had found a career that I could not go a single moment without thinking about; but I wanted the independence to keep my own upside, rather than just handing the PnL over to billionaire founders. So, I left to do a year at Oxford to learn about business, and then started Eightdelta.
Outside of work, I have run a 90-minute half, play golf at a 14 handicap, and recently hit 2000 blitz in chess. Originally from Australia, I spend my time between London and Sydney.
